Frustrated you can not find a great source for outdoor lighting online?

Using the correct outdoor lighting terminology, especially when searching online, plays a big role in finding the right source. But which term(s) should you use? Different people associate outdoor lighting by so many different names. Lets look at the problem.

If you search using the General Terms: Outdoor Lighting, Landscape Lighting or Exterior Lighting you will get different results... but that's only the tip of the iceberg.

Other Terms: Low voltage landscape lighting, 12v outdoor lighting, garden lights, or yard lights.
Fixture specific terms: Pathlight, path way lighting, deck light, spotlight, flood light solar lights, LED lights, landscape lighting fixture.
Brand searches: Kichler landscape lighting, Vista Outdoor Lighting.
Descriptive searches: High quality landscape lighting, professional outdoor lighting, security dusk to dawn lighting, brass landscape light fixture, copper pathlight, quality outdoor lighting, low voltage exterior lighting -- they yield even different results.
Wording variations all all of the above: like outdoor light or outdoor lights instead of outdoor lighting ( the same goes for landscape light, landscape lights, landscape lighting, exterior lighting, exterior lights, exterior light).
Combinations of terms: High quality low voltage copper landscape light fixtures. In the end tens of thousands of terms to search for the same thing, but all with different results.

All of these return different results, so what should I do?

Outdoor Lighting is the general category for all lighting that is outside. This category includes items like post and porch lights that attach to your house, landscape lighting that is in your yard, security lighting, and both line voltage (120v) and low voltage (12v).

Landscape Lighting is the general category for all lighting that is in your yard, garden and landscape. It is mainly low voltage (12v).

Exterior Lighting is a lesser used alternate term for outdoor lighting and often applies to line voltage (120v). Covers the same products as outdoor lighting.

The shorter versions like outdoor lights, landscape light, exterior lights will all work but cut out results. They tend to have more individual fixture results and less overall sources to buy them.

Use the general terms for sources, the short terms and specifics for particular fixtures. Add a word or two to the general term if you are unsatisfied with the general source results. For example, if you are a contractor, try "wholesale landscape lighting" or "outdoor lighting wholesale distributors".
